How it all began...
A SURPRISE GIFT
My soap making journey started when I was gifted a soap bar back in 2018. I was intrigued by its scent – the sweet aroma of milk and lavender filled my room the moment I brought it home. However, I was hesitant to use it.
Having used cheaper soap bars previously, I had the impression that it would dry out my skin and be hard to use. Curiosity soon got the better of me and I tried it in the shower.
To my pleasant surprise, my skin felt smooth and nourished after using it. I found myself enjoying the extra time it takes to lather the soap as I unwind in the shower. Bathing soon became something I look forward to everyday – it's my little “me-time” with my lovely soap bar.
MAKING IN PROGRESS
As my interest in soap bars grew, I started making my own soaps. In the process, I found out the difference between cheap commercial soaps and handmade soap. Handmade soap bars are made using natural ingredients like plant-based oils, essential oils and botanicals – all of which are beneficial for our skin. No nasty chemicals were used.
I also realised how much plastic I could reduce just by switching to soap bars – most soap bars need little to no packaging, whereas body washes often come in fancy plastic bottles. Due to my showering habits, I could use up to EIGHT bottles of body wash in a year! This annual plastic “contribution” was reduced to zero the moment I introduced soap bars in my daily routine.
A VISION TO SHARE
Knowing that I am using skin-loving soaps and doing my part for Mother Nature, my shower experience has never been the same – I am happier, more relaxed, and I started appreciating the simple joy of bathing.
I want share my delightful experience with friends, family and the rest of Singapore. Hence, Oils&Butters was born. I wish all an enjoyable and soothing bath with our soaps!
Let’s adopt a soap bar today!
